The Big Idea: What’s Lost Matters to God.

Reality #1 – Jesus will return to harvest the earth. (vv.14-16)

John 14:3 (ESV) – “I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.”

Matthew 24:14 (ESV) – “And this gospel must be preached throughout the whole world… and then the end will come.”

Matthew 13:30 (ESV) – “…let both grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, ‘Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat in my barn.’”

Reality #2 – When Jesu returns, those who have rejected salvation through Christ will suffer the consequences of that choice. (vv.17-20)

What am I doing today to make it hard for people to go to hell?

The Big Question: Am I part of the Search?

Matthew 28:19-20 (ESV), “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Matthew 9:37 (ESV), “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.”

John 10:10 (ESV), “I have come that you may have life”

John 3:16 (ESV), “God so loved the world that He sent His Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Luke 15: 1-2 (NIV 84), “Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear him… the Pharisees and teachers of the law muttered, ‘This man welcomes sinners and eats with them…’”

Luke 15:4 (NIV 84), “Suppose one of you had a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine… and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?”

Luke 15:5-7 (NIV 84), “When he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine who do not need to repent.”
Luke 15:8 (NIV 84), “Suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one…”

Luke 15:8-10 (NIV 84), “Does she not light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

Luke 15:20 (NIV 84), “While he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him…”

Luke 15:20-24 (NIV 84), “The father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and now he is found.’”

Luke 15:28-32 (NIV 84), “the older brother got angry and refused to go in. So his father came out and pleaded with him… the older brother said, ‘I’ve never disobeyed you… Yet, you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!’ ‘My son, you’re always with me, and everything I have is yours. But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is now alive; he was lost and now he is found!”
