Acts 8:1-24 | Signs of Life: Motive

Acts 8 shows us that persecution could scatter the church, but it could not silence the gospel. As believers were forced out of Jerusalem, they carried the message of Jesus wherever they went. Philip, an ordinary servant filled with love for Christ, entered Samaria and preached to people his culture had taught him to avoid. His witness reminds us that gospel ministry is not limited to church buildings, titles, or convenient seasons; God uses ordinary believers in unexpected places. In contrast, Simon the sorcerer exposes the danger of spiritual ambition without a pure heart. He was fascinated by power, attention, and influence, but not surrendered to Christ. This passage calls us to examine what motivates us: sincere love for the lost, purity before God, and willing obedience to the Spirit. The love that saved us must now move us toward others with truth, compassion, humility, and courage.
