12 January 2025

Series: Colossians

Book: Colossians

Pastor Josh examines the challenges faced by the Colossian church, particularly the influence of heresies like Gnosticism, which suggested that salvation came from secret knowledge beyond Jesus. Although not the church’s founder, Paul expressed deep love and concern for its members in his letter, emphasizing that true fulfillment and hope rest in Christ alone. He highlighted that believers are complete in Jesus, countering Gnostic beliefs and reinforcing Christian teachings about humanity and morality. Paul aimed to correct misconceptions while encouraging a Christ-centered faith. Josh also addresses the dangers of modern religious movements that incorporate Gnostic ideas, warning against the blending of these beliefs with traditional Christianity. He discusses the concept of apostasy, stressing that the true gospel centers on salvation by grace through faith. Additionally, he emphasizes the significance of maintaining a holy life and recognizing one’s identity in Christ, asserting that all worldly identities are temporary and that understanding Jesus’ identity is crucial for shaping personal purpose and faith amidst cultural challenges.
