In Acts 7, Stephen stands accused of dishonoring Moses, the Law, and the temple, but his response becomes a powerful gospel witness. Rather than defending himself, Stephen opens the Scriptures and shows that Israel’s history has always pointed beyond religious symbols to the living God and ultimately to Jesus Christ. God called Abraham before there was a temple, was with Joseph in Egypt, met Moses in the wilderness, and declared through the prophets that He cannot be confined to buildings made by human hands. Stephen also exposes a sobering pattern: God repeatedly sent deliverers and prophets, yet His people often resisted them. Now, in rejecting Jesus, the Righteous One, the religious leaders are repeating the same rebellion. This sermon challenges us to love God’s Word, proclaim the gospel without shame, and examine whether our religious familiarity has become a substitute for true surrender. The question is not merely whether we know spiritual things, but whether we obey when God speaks.
