Let Us Enjoy a Little Breakfast Together

Jesus said to them, “Come and eat breakfast.”  Yet none of the disciples dared ask Him, “Who are you?”-knowing that it was the Lord.  (John 21:12)

These disciples are pretty much in limbo if you will.  They have seen their Lord and Savior crucified, miraculously reappear to them, and their future life in this world is stalled.  Peter decides to go and do what he did before he ever met the Lord, and he takes his best friends with him.  He was about to find out the ways and things of this world that used to excite him, now pale in comparison to the things of the Lord.

This last weekend over 200 entries took to the Missouri River for 15 hours of fishing for catfish with sights on a brand-new Chevy Silverado pickup.  During the night, they encountered 70 mile an hour winds and driving rain, you never know what you will encounter on the water or how successful the catch is going to be.  Peter and the boys have toiled all night long and what do they have to show for it?  Nothing! Now they have some guy standing on the shore yelling, “Haven’t you boys caught anything?”.  “Where’s you boys’ fish?” Then he has the audacity to say, “Cast your net on the right side, then you find some”.  To their amazement they caught “153 large fish”.  John then yells, “It is the Lord”, prompting Peter to deposit himself into the water and letting the others deal with getting the catch to shore.

After all their best efforts yielded nothing, the Lord provides an abundance of fish with one simple command.  Then the line that stands out to me, “Come and eat breakfast”.  We can create so much drama and endless worry with our regularly scheduled programming.  We scheme, we plan, we work, we toil, we get frustrated because many times things do not go as we drew them up.  Desperate, tired, and hungry we finally as a last resort look to the Lord and occasionally do not even recognize who He is. Sometimes all He is asking for us to do is pull up a chair and join Him for a little breakfast.

Elijah found that not always is the Lord in the wind, the earthquake, or the fire.  In a world of noise and activity, many times the Lord is found in the quiet, inner places of silence. I am going to ask you to put aside the busyness of the day and allow your five-senses alone to reverberate and recognize the Lord.  Can you smell what the Lord is cooking up, can you “taste and see the Lord is good”. (Ps. 34:8) Can you hear Him calling out?  Can you see what the Lord has for you?  Reach out to Him and allow Him to touch you.

In the best relationships, sometimes words are not necessary.  Other times words get in the way.  You do not always need to fix something, correct something, or use it as a teaching moment.  Just pull up a chair because the Lord has your breakfast ready, and He is not in a hurry as there is no place He would rather be.
